Duties and responsibilities include uncovering gas lines and mains, removing and replacing lines/mains, testing and purging lines using natural and inert gas and air, replacing valves, joining plastic lines and pipes, abandoning and reactivating gas lines to include mains and services, and occasionally operating equipment/trucks when needed. Under close supervision, reports to Gas Crew Leader.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks in support of construction, maintenance, and repair including: digging work areas, moving and removing pipes, replacing valves, removing and replacing covers, driving and assisting in installation and repair of utilities, and doing manual labor as required.When skill level and knowledge is appropriate, operates the following and other equipment as needed: rock saw, directional boring machine, backhoe, trencher, dump truck, bobcat, fork truck, and tapping machine; performs maintenance checks to equipment operated.Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; and reports any issues to Crew Leader.Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to supervisor.Assists in fusing gas pipes and valves.Assists in joining plastic pipes with mechanical, stab, and lyco fittings.Assists in utilizing butt fusion, saddle fusion, and electrofusion equipment to repair or construct gas lines.Assists in conducting air tests to ensure newly installed pipes meet specifications.Maintains knowledge on current safety policies, practices, and procedures related to the construction, maintenance and repair of gas appurtenances.Conducts behavior in a professional manner at all times to positively reflect on customer's perception of the Town.
