The Town of West Point is accepting applications for a Full-Time REFUSE WORKER.
The Refuse Worker performs labor-intensive tasks involving the collection and disposal of refuse and recyclables.
Starting Salary: Grade 9 - $30085.29
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collects household refuse, garbage and debris by loading, hauling and unloading
- Collects recyclable material from residences by loading, hauling and unloading
- Operates mechanisms, which control the functions of a rear loading refuse truck.
- Follows established schedules and routes
- Performs prescribed preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools as required; cleans and maintains equipment in good working order
- Makes minor repairs to equipment and tools
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of equipment operations
- Knowledge and use of safety precautions and equipment including reflective vest, steel-toed boots, lifting belt, eye protection, ear protection, gloves
- Knowledge of the geography, streets, buildings and facilities in the community
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public

Valid Virginia Driver's License required
