The Town of Windsor, CT is seeking a Maintainer I position to perform manual and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work in the areas of streets and highways, and parks and grounds. The starting salary for this position is $55,891 (subject to current contract negotiations – an immediate increase in annual salary will take effect upon ratification of new agreement). This position is part of the Teamsters Local 671 Bargaining Unit.
The Position
In this position you will maintain, repair, clean and assist with constructing Town roads, sidewalks, bridges, drainage facilities and other highway facilities. Controls traffic at work sites. Performs grounds maintenance work at town facilities. Insures proper maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools. Regularly operates up to Class D vehicles and equipment; operates mowers, chainsaws, hand tools, tractors; and removes snow from sidewalks and stairs. Performs other public works duties as assigned.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of use and care of hand and power tools and equipment
- Ability to operate mowing, trimming and athletic field maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, and be able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to listen, understand, retain, follow and apply verbal and written instructions or directions. Ability to write simple correspondence
- Must be available for standby and emergency response coverage after regular working hours, weekends and holidays
- Completion of High School or equivalent, plus some related manual labor, highway construction, or grounds maintenance experience; OR any combination of training or experience which provides a demonstrated potential to perform the essential duties of the position
- Must pass post-offer physical and drug screen - which includes screening for marijuana
- Special Requirements:
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must be able to obtain a valid CDL (B) license within 12 months of date of hire.
