Production Planner

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the daily planning functions. To analyze, develop, and implement sound practical business methods to improve the overall flow of materials from our raw material suppliers to our manufacturing customer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Carry out the planning activities; analyze and implement production and material requirements to meet customer order schedules and works with various company departments to make sure all customer orders ship out on time.
  • Maintain MRP accuracy through the analysis and verification of inventory and material back flushing.  Review and expedite MRP messages and coordinate material demand signals with purchasing.
  • Schedule work-in-process throughout the plant to execute a cost effective and efficient production process.
  • Review MRP systems and supporting information to determine machine capacity load and existing demand capacity.
  • Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department.
  • Resolve issues, serve as a resource in troubleshooting complex matters and ensure that calls with questions are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Analyze and implement production strategies to help resolve customer delivery date move up and push outs.
  • Ensure Cycle counts are performed in a daily basis and accurately entered in the ERP system.
  • Manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
  • ECN activity as related to process inventory.
  • Ensure timely communication within the department, company and other stakeholders.
  • Communicates safety activities and safety program to direct reports.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Ensure the planning departments function under company Quality Business Management System (BMS). Collaborate with other departments to close operational gaps and audit requirements for material tracing.
  • Maintain excellent communication, cooperation and teamwork among all stakeholders within the company.
  • Participates in the annual physical inventory process as needed.

 

Production Planner


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A BA or BS Degree in Operations Management, Production Planning, Inventory Management or other related business field with three to five years’ work experience.  Other experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.  Understands computerized inventory tracking and record keeping system.  Demonstrates logical and creative problem-solving techniques.  Effectively communicates both verbal and written.  Must be a committed team player.   Must demonstrate the flexibility to adapt to constant change, interruptions, and repetition without losing efficiency or focus.  This position requires a need to exercise independent judgment and action. Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, interpret, and analyze business documents such as blueprints, spreadsheets, graphs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine professional emails, reports and correspondence and the capabilities to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Requires interaction with various areas such as Accounting, Manufacturing, Shipping Department, Production Planning, Engineering, Customer Service, and Sales etc.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Demonstrates the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Needs the ability to define problems by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing a conclusion. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions.  Self-manage time effectively with little direction from supervisor.  Demonstrate a willingness to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is regularly required to be on the production floor surrounded by moving mechanical parts and equipment.  The employee must comply with the dress code and PPE requirement such as gloves, safety glasses with side shields, and steel toed shoes.  Temperatures and noise levels vary.  Heavy forklift traffic present. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, sit, kneel, crouch, speak and hear.  The employee frequently is required to reach with arms, hands, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move greater than 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and color vision. 

 

OTHER

Must have valid driver's license.  Must be able to work flexible hours. May need to travel 25% of the time.
