Description

Penz Products Divsion is currently seeking a Process Engineer - Plastics Thermoforming.

Position:

The Process Engineer, with a plastic thermoforming background, position is responsible for providing sustaining engineering support for all existing processes and production with a mix of technical and hands-on problem-solving techniques. This position will provide major input into the production, design, development, and implementation of thermoforming processes for existing and new products.

Requirements

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides technical expertise and leadership to the organization as the expert in thermoforming processes and tooling operation, design, maintenance, and repair.
  • Focus on daily customer and process related issues to improve quality, on-time delivery and process efficiencies. Implement corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Plan, lead, execute and complete projects to improve productivity and quality through proper investigation and data driven six sigma principals.
  • Provide engineering support for all manufacturing Kaizen events.
  • Support and develop validation protocols, reports, and provide objective evidence that equipment, processes, test methods and products meet minimum requirements and are compliant with applicable specifications.
  • Close communication with customers, QA, suppliers and product development teams on project matters, material issues, tooling and fixture design, process capability studies, and product quality issues for existing processes, products, and related projects.
  • Provide design input for new thermoform tooling, troubleshoot current tooling and process issues.
  • Work with internal and external resources to maintain and repair thermoform tooling.
  • Quote and estimate rate and product costing on thermoformed parts for new business quotes.
  • Develop process documentation and training materials for new processes, materials, and equipment, including drawings, protocols, completion reports and specifications.
  • Confirm conformance to engineering designs and methodologies and verify overall process safety.
  • Utilize proven lean manufacturing-based analytical and troubleshooting/problem solving abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, lead-time reduction, inventory reduction and quality improvement through defect reduction.
  • Perform Applications Engineering duties as technical expert for thermoforming materials and processes at customer sites when required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area using the 5S process and follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working in accordance with our documented Quality Management System and for ensuring that products and services meet the customer’s specified requirements.
  • Responsible for complying with all company policies, procedures, values, ethics, and rules.
  • Maintains complete security and confidentiality of all company records.
  • Other duties as required.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; preferably in plastics engineering, polymer science or materials science
  • Minimum of 3 years of plastics process engineering experience or equivalent required
  • Experience with Thermoforming Principles in a related manufacturing environment
  • Technical experience in thermoforming sheet materials
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written communications
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is required
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Solid Works, AutoCAD, Epicor MRP, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with automotive / heavy-duty trucking industry concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with clients, co-workers, vendors, and business partners
  • Strong project management skills
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independent of supervision and make a wide variety of complex decisions
  • Candidate must be a fast learner with a high attention to detail
  • Above-average organization and time management skills
  • May be required to work different shifts, hours, overtime, and weekends if needed.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
