What are the responsibilities and job description for the GVSU Engineering Co-Op position at Trans-Matic Mfg Inc?
This GVSU Co-Op student will work closely with the Design Engineers and the Manufacturing Engineers to complete projects.
Primary Function:
Semester 1
During the initial semester, students invest a substantial portion of their time in gaining familiarity with our systems, software platforms, and established procedures. Concurrently, they undertake the task of improving and updating existing designs while acquiring knowledge of engineering's best practices. This immersive experience broadens their horizons, enabling them to engage with various departments and personnel outside the engineering domain, enhancing their proficiency in technical communication.
Semester 2
In the manufacturing engineering semester, students dive into the intricacies of our production machinery and equipment. They collaborate closely with experienced manufacturing engineers to innovate and optimize existing systems and contribute to changes or support implementation of new product lines.
Semester 3
Throughout the design engineering semester, students are immersed in intensive design work. Their responsibilities encompass not only the redesign of existing tooling but also active participation alongside experienced engineers in designing new tooling solutions. Additionally, they play a pivotal role in formulating and refining the processes necessary for the successful integration of new product lines.
Required Qualifications:
- Enrolled in the GVSU Engineering program.
- Computer literacy with experience on a CAD system.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands on experience in transfer press tool design.
- Working knowledge of drafting and detailing methods, including tolerancing, line usage and view specific course work, manuals management.
- Machine shop or Metal Stamping experience.
- Experienced use of Creo (3-D) modeling software.
