Direct Support Professional for a Wonderful Young Woman!
Are you a kind, patient, and reliable individual looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in someone's life? We are seeking dedicated Direct Support Professionals to assist a friendly, fun-loving, determined, and hard-working 20-year-old young woman. This individual enjoys socializing, learning, reading, spending time with her family, playing board games, shopping, riding horses, swimming, and staying active. She is working towards gaining more independence and transitioning to life after graduation.
The Direct Support Professional role for This individual involves a variety of responsibilities focused on supporting her daily life and helping her achieve greater independence. This includes providing assistance with personal care such as grooming, bathing, dressing, and toileting. Due to this individual being non-mobile and using a power wheelchair, the role also requires complete assistance with transfers and ambulation. Ensuring this individual’s health and well-being is crucial, encompassing medication assistance and mealtime support, including setting up meals, assisting with feeding (with a chopped, regular diet), and ensuring adequate fluid intake. Effective communication is necessary, recognizing that this individual can be verbal but sometimes difficult to understand, requiring the use of supportive strategies. The DSP will also support community engagement in activities like shopping and Special Olympics bowling, with potential for future part-time employment. Assistance with light household tasks such as folding clothing and laundry is also part of the role. Maintaining health and safety through constant supervision is paramount in all environments, including awareness of her high startle reflex and aversion to loud noises.
The ideal candidate will be patient and understanding, a good communicator, reliable and responsible, and able to provide consistent support. They should also be comfortable assisting with all aspects of personal care and mobility, aware of and sensitive to the individual's sensory needs, and dedicated to supporting her in achieving greater independence and reaching her transition goals .
