Transition Engineering Surveying (TES) is pleased to announce a job opening for a Survey Crew Chief.
In this role you will perform various types of surveys including topographic, boundary, right-of-way, as-built and ALTA/NSPS surveys while managing crew coordination.
Position Requirements:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Perform mathematical computations
- Must be physically able to work long hours with a flexible schedule
- Ability to travel locally and out of town
- Awareness of health and safety at all times
- Associates Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years survey experience
- Land Surveyor in Training or Certified Survey Technician
- Valid driver’s license with a reasonably clean driving record
- Preferred Certification, Skills and Experience
Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Manage one or two-person survey crew doing boundary, topographic, control surveys; and survey construction layout services
- Assess a survey project and develop a plan to complete the survey
- Understanding of surveying computations and concepts using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson SurvCE, Carlson Survey, Leica Smartworks, and other associated surveying software
- Must be able to operate basic Microsoft Office Applications, Laptop and iPad
- Prepare traditional survey field notes, adapt and contribute to our field to finish procedures and codes
- Keep accurate and complete daily survey work logs and turn them in at the end of the day
- Review project with survey technicians before, during and after survey projects
- Fully engage in solving complex problems to provide technical evaluation and sound solutions
- Assure the survey assistant is properly completing all their assigned tasks and duties accurately and in a timely fashion
- Provide an environment for the assistant to grow and learn some of the duties of the chief – the chief shall encourage, teach and “pass on” the chief’s knowledge to the assistant
- Perform routine survey equipment care and maintenance
- Assure maintenance of the survey truck and keeping it clean, neat and organized
- Make sure to stay in compliance with all safety procedures for not only yourself, but your assistant(s) as well. Including but not limited to: Highway work – DelDOT safety standards, HAZMAT work – adhere to the Health and Safety Plans, Industrial Sites – adhere to their Health and Safety Plan
- Physical labor (i.e., cutting line through dense vegetation, digging with a shovel and other hand tools, using an engineer’s hammer (or maul) to drive stakes and rebar etc.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to various weather conditions. The employee may need to move and lift field equipment and tools as well as walk long distances and stand for extended periods of time. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
The survey crew chief will report directly to president of the company or the project manager. The ideal candidate will meet these requirements and perform under accepted surveying practices and principles.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $72,800.00 per year
