HEAD MECHANIC
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent
Training as a mechanic
Experience working with adults/students in an authoritative role
CDL with bus endorsement or willing to obtain such
Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
Salary and work year to be established by the Board
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor/Transportation Clerk/Business Manager
SUPERVISES:
Mechanics, Assistant Mechanics, Student Workers, and Bus Washers
JOB GOAL:
Work with Mechanics and Assistant Mechanics to ensure
that vehicles and related facilities
are being maintained in a safe environment
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance
with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform repairs and maintain all school vehicles in a
manner which will lead to approving and stickering by the State Highway Patrol
Develop and conduct preventive maintenance programs
to minimize downtime of vehicles
Able to follow directions
Able to operate vehicle repair, maintenance, and
diagnostic equipment, tools (air tools, hydraulic tools, and
electrical tools) and all school vehicles
Assist Transportation Supervisor/Transportation Clerk as needed:
start and move buses, answer phone calls, locate &
pick up parts, keep inventory, road test vehicles, etc.
Clean and keep orderly all equipment used in making
mechanical repairs
Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness of the bus
maintenance facility
Wash buses in emergency situations
Drive emergency bus runs as determined by the
Transportation Supervisor or Transportation Clerk
Maintain eligibility status as a bus driver as stated in
Ohio Pupil Transportation
Follow all laws and regulations established by the
Ohio Dept. of Education
Maintain accurate cost and inventory records
of replacement parts used in maintenance of school vehicles
Assist with recovery operations during vehicular
breakdowns or accidents
Assist in the security of the building and contents
Deal with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids
Occasional operation of a bus in inclement weather conditions
Participate in and help development training and
improvement programs and share working
knowledge with other mechanics and personnel
Comply with all Plain Local Board of Education policies
and procedures
Perform other duties as directed
