Primary Purpose: The Night Watchman is responsible for the overnight security and surveillance of the school district’s transportation facilities, vehicles, and equipment. This position ensures the safety and security of buses, maintenance areas, and related property by performing regular patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, and responding to unusual or suspicious activity.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record.
· Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Special Knowledge Skills:
· Knowledge of basic security and emergency procedures.
· Ability to remain alert and observant during overnight hours.
· Reliable and self-motivated with strong integrity.
· Ability to write clear incident reports and maintain detailed logs.
· Basic computer or surveillance monitoring equipment skills a plus.
· Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols.
Experience: Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or custodial work preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Patrol transportation facilities, parking lots, and surrounding areas on a scheduled basis throughout the shift. Monitor security systems, alarms, and surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity or breaches. Secure gates, doors, and windows; check for signs of forced entry or tampering. Respond to and report any unauthorized individuals on premises to local law enforcement and district officials as required. Maintain a written log of nightly activities and incidents. Assist in emergency situations such as fire, vandalism, or equipment tampering. Perform occasional minor maintenance duties (e.g., replacing light bulbs,
reporting leaks). Communicate effectively with transportation staff, maintenance crews, and law enforcement personnel. Ensure compliance with all district policies and safety regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage the transportation facility at night.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work is performed outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions; exposure to dust, noise, and potential hazards. Requires walking, standing, and patrolling for extended periods. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
