Essential Duties:
Supervises maintenance personnel to perform troubleshooting and repair of building support and distribution systems including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, building interiors and exteriors and other equipment as needed.
- Assist in the planning, development and management of project work.
- Supervises and performs preventive maintenance on equipment, tools and structures.
- Assures completion of assigned maintenance repair tasks by monitoring work progress, inspecting work performance and providing corrections of any deficiencies as necessary.
- Responsible for inventory control of supplies and equipment. Stores supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility.
- Makes appropriate recommendations on the purchase of new equipment.
- Ensures all auxiliary systems are in working order to meet the need of any and all emergency situations.
- Provides properly maintained equipment to ensure the safety of that equipment and the personnel using it. Provides training on the equipment as required.
- Enforces University rules regarding employee conduct. Advises employees of the University’s rules regarding conduct and recommends progressive disciplinary action when appropriate.
- Provides staff with information and training on hazardous chemicals used in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and when a new hazardous chemical is introduced in the work area. Trains staff on use of Safety Data Sheets and Personal Protective Equipment.
- Teams with the other supervisors to ensure the Facilities Management Department is complying with OSHA Regulations. Establishes minimum requirements.
- Works with other supervisors to remove snow and prepare sidewalks and parking lots for the safety of Students, Staff and Faculty.
- Schedules and assures completion of campus grease trap cleaning as required by local authorities.
- Follows and instructs all standard safety procedures and practices.
- Oversees the operation of department fleet vehicles.
- Works towards continual improvement in all areas of responsibility.
- Must be available to stand in for on call rotation
Secondary Duties:
Contributes to the overall success of the Facilities Management Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.
- Be present at and support campus events (promote a positive and cooperative image of the university)
- Manages areas of responsibility to meet financial objectives.
- Tracks and approves employee time sheets.
- Develops effective and efficient work teams.
- This position is designated as a hands-on working position.
- Prepares annual and mid-year Performance Evaluations on employees.
Administrative responsibilities:
- Must be proficient in all MS Office products to include MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint
- Must be able to create and use MS Excel spreadsheets with formulas and calculations to achieve desired results for reporting
- Must be able to communicate using MS Word for professional correspondence with proper formatting, grammar and punctuation
- Must be able to communicate professional correspondence using email platforms such as Google with administrative departments on campus
- Must be able to communicate professional correspondence with vendors, contractor and outside sources
- Must be organized and capable of working on shared networks with other departmental personnel to maintain accurate maintenance, purchasing and personnel records.
- Must be able to work collectively and collaboratively with other managers in the department on a daily basis and provide support when and where needed
- Must be a Strong Team Leader and be able to motivate technicians, mechanics and utility personnel to achieve the goals of the department
- Must always keep the departments Mission Statement at the forefront of the day to day operations and lead by example.
