What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inpatient Unit Manager position at Treasure Coast Hospice?
Under the supervision of the IPU Director &/or Designee this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations on the weekends serving Martin and St. Lucie Counties. Delivery of direct clinical services to patients and families in the interdisciplinary setting. This position is also responsible for overseeing the interdisciplinary team services, dietary services, and the effective and efficient use of all resources.
Qualifications
- Three (3) years of hospice and/or home health experience within the past five years and one year of managerial experience required.
- Must be Certified Hospice and Palliative Registered Nurse (CHPN) within 12 months.
- Current Florida Registered Nurse license.
- Knowledge of Hospice Conditions of Participation (COPs) required.
- Ability to execute an effective, supportive, sensitive approach in response to the needs of patients, families, and staff.
- Demonstrate skills in administrative performance, including expertise in both written and oral communication is required.
- Must have strong organizational and supervisory skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge of documentation standards, service coordination, and case management.
- Maintain a high level of urgency, customer consciousness and service excellence.

Key Result Areas
- Utilize appropriate staffing standards and work with other Team Managers to assure coverage as defined by Treasure Coast Hospice Standards.
- Manage and promote consistency on the team in the area of accountability, adherence to policy and procedures, punctuality and absenteeism.
- Trains, mentors, and coaches staff to ensure excellent customer service, high-level staff performance and clinical excellence as measured by positive feedback from the Family Satisfaction Survey, QI team performance, and integrity of staff documentation.
- Teach and uphold Treasure Coast Hospice’s standards with a focus on perfect documentation, perfect visits, perfect communication, and professional dress & behavior.
- Lead, develop and motivate employees with confidence, energy, integrity and resources.
- Responsible for the management and coordination and delivery of direct clinical services to patients and families in the inpatient unit including dietary operations.
- Work across multi-departments i.e. Medical Services, Compliance, Quality, HR, Clinical Teams and Facilities to assure compliance with all State and Federal Regulatory agencies.
- In conjunction with IPU Director and Medical Services, facilitation and coordination of complex case conferences with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Manage interdisciplinary team meetings, with oversight of the development, review and revision of the patient/family plan of care.
- Participate as an active supporter of the Treasure Coast Hospice compliance program including the emphasis to report, as well as complying with all Federal, State, and Local laws as well as the organization’s compliance program.
- Fulfill all responsibilities related to the success of the strategic plan of the organization, as requested and assigned.

- Position will be categorized as category I (involves routine exposure to blood and body fluids/tissues).
Working Conditions
- Typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Sedentary – Exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria met.
- The work is required to have close visual acuity such as/preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
