Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized non-profit community group committed to protecting and improving Atlantas urban forest through planting, conserving, and educating. Founded in 1985, Trees Atlanta works tirelessly to address Atlantas tree loss, protect its forests, and create new greenspace.
Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse is the main headquarters of Trees Atlanta. The grounds are a component of the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum, a Level 2 certified arboretum, maintained by Trees Atlanta. Notable installations on the grounds include a native azalea collection, extensive green infrastructure systems, native Georgia piedmont meadow, and around 300 trees.
The Groundskeeper will play an integral role in maintaining Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse collections and a key role in the maintenance of office grounds. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
- Work with other like-minded individuals in an environmental non-profit setting
- Assist with maintaining hardscaping and other assets such as patios, paths, fences, and roads, including sweeping, raking, trash removal, and debris removal
- Carry out all aspects of horticultural care and garden maintenance tasks, including but not limited to watering/irrigation, mulching, weeding, and invasive vegetation management on the grounds of the Trees Atlanta Kendeda TreeHouse
- Assist with landscape and maintenance tasks of satellite properties (native tree nursery, tree holding lots, operations yard(s), etc.)
- Safely operates work trucks and battery- or gas-powered light equipment, including but not limited to lawn mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and backpack leaf blowers
- Safely drive Trees Atlanta vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and gators
- Lead small groups of volunteers on weekday maintenance projects
- Liaise with the public as a responsible ambassador to communicate Trees Atlantas mission
- Perform other duties as requested
What you need
- At least 1-2 years of related groundskeeping/horticulture/ gardening experience
- Demonstrated interest, passion, and knowledge about trees, native plants, and urban ecology
- Excellent organizational skills, drive, and attention to detail, with proven ability to work independently and with a team
- Demonstrated volunteer coordination experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Scheduled work week Monday to Friday, 7am 3:30pm, occasional Saturday work may be requested
- At least 21 years old with a 3-year clear driving history (required to drive company vehicles)
- Regular and reliable attendance, this position is not eligible for remote work
- Detail-oriented, willing to do repetitive tasks, and able to work independently or in a team.
- Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions at all times of year, the majority of work for this position is performed outside
- Ability to conduct repetitive, moderate to strenuous physical activity in the field and lift up to 50 pounds
