GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Veterans Specialist Case Manager is specifically designed to support veterans who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, sex trafficking, and/or stalking. This role is not just about managing cases but also about building and shaping a program that is responsive to the evolving needs of veterans.
True North of Columbia is committed to offering holistic support and advocacy to empower our clients, and we need an individual who can apply a deep understanding of military culture and the unique challenges faced by veterans to spearhead this program's creation and growth.
Persons in this position must be available to work 40 hours a week, during core hours, Monday through Friday, with flexibility required to accommodate client needs, including some evenings. Persons in this position will also be on the on-call rotation for weekends and outside of core hours. Persons working with this job description may from time to time have a secondary primary workplace location due to client requirements.
POSITION-SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Work collaboratively with agency leadership to build and establish the framework for a veterans' support program, considering best practices and innovative approaches to serving this population.
2. Pilot services tailored to veterans’ needs, gathering feedback and making informed adjustments to ensure program efficacy and client satisfaction.
3. Engage in short and long-term strategic planning for the program’s expansion and sustainability, including identifying and securing funding sources.
4. Identify and nurture partnerships with stakeholders, veterans’ groups, and other organizations to build a network of support and raise awareness of the program.
5. Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ needs, including safety planning, psychosocial elements, and resource identification to support veterans in crisis due to intimate partner violence, sexual violence, sex trafficking, and/or stalking.
6. Develop individual case management goals that address clients' immediate needs and long-term goals, with a focus on building self-sufficiency and addressing unique challenges faced by veterans.
7. Facilitate access to veteran-specific resources, such as VA healthcare, housing assistance, and other benefits which can aid in the recovery and empowerment of the client.
8. Advocate on behalf of clients within the VA system, courts, and other organizations to ensure that clients are receiving the services and benefits to which they are entitled and need.
9. Build and maintain relationships with local, state, and national veteran services, mental health, law enforcement, legal resources, and other community organizations.
10. Provide crisis intervention services as needed, utilizing de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches to support veterans in distress.
11. Provide education and trainings tailored towards veterans, active military, ROTC, etc on issues of domestic violence and sexual violence, including preventive and supportive strategies.
12. Maintain accurate and confidential client records, prepare reports, and provide statistics as required for agency needs and grant requirements.
13. Participate in professional development opportunities and stay informed on best practices related to veterans' services and issues surrounding domestic and sexual violence.
GENERAL ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

8. Maintaining client and staff confidentiality; adhering to a compassionate trauma-informed approach towards clients
9. Being available for necessary staff calls and emergencies that may arise after hours or on weekends and responding to all calls in a timely and thoughtful manner
10. Driving between locations for service provision or staff meetings (in accordance with specific job description), which may include: transporting clients; running errands; delivering products or services required by clients; among others
11. Cross-training in other program areas (as needed or requested by the Executive Director) in order to meet client and staff needs; and
12. Performing other duties both within the program area and throughout the agency, as requested or required by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
2. A comprehensive understanding of military culture and the unique challenges faced by veterans.
3. At least two years of experience in case management, preferably within a veterans’ program, domestic violence, or sexual violence support setting.
4. A minimum of two year’s experience in program development preferred.
5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
6. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals of varying ages, ethnicities, orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
7. Knowledge of community resources, social service agencies, and VA benefits.
8. Demonstrable skills in crisis intervention, advocacy, and problem-solving.
9. Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
10. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to meet with clients and navigate community resources as needed.
Language and Communication Skills and Abilities:
1. Must possess a high level of ability to be appropriately assertive in seeking services for clients while respectfully interacting with all stakeholders
2. Must possess the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently; oral and written fluency in at least one language other than English preferred
3. Ability to be effective, confident, and articulate in presenting information to top management, staff, clients, and the public; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external stakeholders
4. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions given from written and oral sources
5. Must possess an ability and willingness to work with people of various ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds
6. Must possess an ability to remain patient, calm, and tactful under stressful situations; must consistently possess an ability to use diplomacy, tact, and good judgment when dealing with problems
7. Must be able to promptly provide appropriate follow up to internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner
8. Must maintain confidentiality of client and staff information
Mathematical Skills:
1. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to understand and employ basic accounting mathematics, i.e. in order to calculate time and paid time off, among others

1. Ability to recognize when interns and volunteers need additional support with their performance, tasks, duties, etc.
2. Ability to identify problems and determine the best course of action for their resolution
