Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) will provide specialized nursing care to patients with acute and chronic conditions, including critical illnesses and medical emergencies. This unit offers care to patients with a wide range of diagnoses and requires a skilled nurse to manage multiple complex health issues, including respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and various forms of organ failure. The RN will work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, utilizing advanced clinical skills to provide exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) will provide specialized nursing care to patients with acute and chronic conditions, including critical illnesses and medical emergencies. This unit offers care to patients with a wide range of diagnoses and requires a skilled nurse to manage multiple complex health issues, including respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and various forms of organ failure. The RN will work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, utilizing advanced clinical skills to provide exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care to patients with a variety of conditions including DKA, ESRD, respiratory failure, COVID-19, flu, drug/alcohol withdrawal, placement issues, wounds, pneumonia, fluid overload, and more.
- Monitor and manage patient vitals, administer medications, and assist with special procedures such as bedside hemodialysis, chest tube management/placement, wound vacs, and NG tube placement.
- Work with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5, ensuring safe and effective care for each patient.
- Utilize Cerner for charting and maintaining accurate patient records.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians and support staff, to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Float support is available, with the opportunity to utilize Registered Nurses from the float pool to assist with staffing when necessary.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and attention to detail in providing patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Bed Capacity: 31 to 40 beds.
- Scrub Color: Blue-Navy.
- Areas of Float Support: Yes, float support is available by utilizing Registered Nurses from the float pool to assist with staffing.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with a focus on critical care.
- Experience in Progressive Care, ICU, or similar acute care settings preferred.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Cerner.
- Strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform advanced procedures like hemodialysis, chest tube placement, and wound care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with the healthcare team and provide compassionate care to patients.
- Previous experience in Progressive Care or Intensive Care Units (ICU).
- Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) or related specialties.
- Experience with bedside hemodialysis, chest tube management, wound vacs, and NG tube placement.
