Registered Nurse Pre/Post OP

Description

Truvista Surgical Center is looking for Registered Nurse Pre-Post Op to work on a full-time 4 day week (Monday to Thursday - 10 hour shifts). Day time shift with start time between 6:00am - 7:00am.   

Directs and/or provides professional perioperative nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care. Provides supervision and guidance to designated staff and may be authorized, in absence of Charge RN, to make decisions affecting pre/post op services.

Other Responsibilities: 

Acts as patient advocate.

Initiates physical and psycho/social assessment plan of care, identifies patient and verifies informed consent and other required documentation.

Completes a pre-operative record review and conducts an interview to plan for patient needs.

Reviews daily schedule, prepares cases based on patient’s physician preference and facility policy.

Identifies and gathers supplies and equipment as needed for patient care.

Provides safe effective care as a registered nurse.

Supervises, directs, and performs care in pre-operative and post-operative departments.

Demonstrates ability to set priorities and make rapid and effective clinical decisions.

Maintains a safe environment and adheres to all patient safety requirements per policies and procedures.

Follows standard precautions, aseptic technique and infection prevention policies and

Procedures as necessary.

Demonstrates effective use of general equipment and equipment for patient care.

Demonstrates safe and effective specimen handling and documentation.

Monitors patients and provides care according to written policies and procedures.

Demonstrates effective skills in intravenous therapy, IV management and medication administration.

Documents pre-operative and post-operative care timely, legibly, and accurately.

Communicates in report to intraoperative staff on transfer.

Attends staff meetings required and maintains compliance with educational requirements of job and/or license/certification.

Must work well with all staff, physicians, vendors, and especially peers. Willing to assist others when requested. Demonstrates cooperation and works as a team members

Maintain pleasant and positive attitude.

Reports unusual occurrences and events in timely and accurate fashion and performs Process Improvements as needed.

Communicates discharge care plan and physician instructions to patient and accompanying responsible adult.

Performs pre-admission screening duties and documents health history for scheduled patients.

Requirements

An Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Current licensure in the State of Michigan.

Current BLS Certification.

Registered Nurse has 1 year from date of hire to obtain ACLS Certification.

Ability to relate and work effectively with others.

Demonstrates skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient

care and to meet documentation standards.

Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional

advancement.

Previous operating room and pre/post-operative experience is preferred.

Is aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with them.

Effective communication skills with staff, physicians, and vendors.
