Description

Position Summary:

The Tribal Conservation Corps welcomes Tribal youth from all backgrounds. Once enrolled, expectations are high. Tribal Corps Members emerge from the Tribal Conservation Corps with character, credentials, and commitment. This role provides a life-changing opportunity with specialized training, education, and possible scholarships while earning a paycheck and giving back to the community and the environment.

Qualifications:

  • 18-25 years of age, or military veterans up to age 29
  • A registered Tribal California member from Tuolumne and surrounding counties (Calaveras County, Stanislaus County, Mariposa County, Alpine County, and Mono County).
  • Able to successfully pass fingerprint background checks and drug tests.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and conditions.
  • Willing and able to respond to emergencies and be away from home or assigned center for two weeks or longer.
  • Willing and able to participate in the Tribal Corps education and training program.
  • Military veterans ages 26-29 must have a DD214 with a discharge status of Honorable or General under Honorable Conditions

Qualifications


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Line up for roll call at their center before departing for the day’s project with their crew.
  • Attend “tailgate sessions” to talk about safety concerns of daily projects.
  • Attend class regularly.
  • Train both formal (instructional) and informal (on-the-job).
  • Perform meaningful work that often leads to a career opportunity.
  • Required to wear uniform daily.
  • Work with different entities for natural resources that target conservation programs, emergency response, and work on projects assigned.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities safely and responsibly.
  • Consistently demonstrates the highest level of customer service during emergency and routine situations.
  • Must be able to keep physically fit throughout the program.

Working Conditions:

Work conditions also include visiting various Tribal Communities in Tuolumne and neighboring counties such as Calaveras County, Stanislaus County, Mariposa County, Alpine County, and Mono County by vehicle and walking. This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods; climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, crawling and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting more than 50 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity; hearing, talking and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; subject to outside environmental conditions of heat and cold; walking on uneven ground.

Preference in filling vacancies shall be given first to qualified Tuolumne Me-Wuk Community Council Members and then to enrolled Native Americans of any federally recognized tribe.  Documentation for claiming preference must be provided with the application for consideration.  Other than the above, the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribe is an equal opportunity employer.
