What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Thermal Engineer position at Turion Space?
Turion Space is seeking a skilled and experienced Spacecraft Thermal engineer. We are a startup and a small team.
As a Senior Thermal Engineer, you will lead the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of the satellite systems related to the space thermal environment and requirements. You will work closely with the Turion Space team across software and hardware systems. You will own the thermal control and management system. Your creativity, experience, and ambition will directly impact the architecture of the vehicle's systems as the missions increase in complexity.
- Thermal design of hardware, from initial high-level layout and analysis down to validation of performance with ground tests.
- Automate workflow to reduce engineering investment in the design cycle.
- Control the system-level thermal model
- Select in-house testing equipment and external testing facilities.
- Pursue performance/robustness improvements.
- Pursue operational simplicity.
- Produce quality documentation of your work to reduce miss-rate and improve efficiency.
- Degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience with Thermal Desktop, Simulink, Simscape, Femap, NX-NASTRAN, or ANSYS Workbench.
- Experience with 3-D and reduced-order thermal modeling.
- Experience with 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Ability to identify sizing cases and quickly evaluate the impact of design decisions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.
Turion Space was formed with the vision of building technology required for humanity's interplanetary future. To achieve this goal, Turion Space is building low-earth-orbit spacecraft to move things in space and gather SDA data when we're not. Active development includes mission control, flight software, ground software, testing, design, build, and operations. The fleet of satellites begins with the DROID.001 mission "Just Get it Up There" launching in June 2023. DROID.001 will be the first dedicated SSA satellite in the United States.
