Job Summary

Provides basic security and protection of persons on campus and on university property
Provides basic security and protection of persons on campus and on university property
Essential Job Duties
- Observe and report unsafe or suspicious conditions on campus
- Assist higher level officers on response to incidents regarding campus safety and security
- Court or judicial appearances as required relating to campus matters
- Provides directions and assistance to campus constituents
- Provides security and safeguard to campus facilities
- Maintains communications contact with TUPD to provide response to service calls and assistance
- Completes required reports and forms
- Attends internal and external training and meetings as assigned
- Monitor alarm and surveillance systems; including response
- Must be able to pass a Firearms Safety Course (dept. may arm officers during emergency situations)
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be able to work rotating shifts
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of a security guard, tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running and climbing. The duties of a security guard may also involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and/or people, such as in the event of chasing and/or subduing a suspect(s). Some tasks are performed with the potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noises, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, traffic and animals. Tasks includes working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, golf carts, ATV’s and material handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Standard body gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment based on assignment including, but not limited to, various types of body armor and safety gear.
