734 – Boshears Assistant
REPORTS TO: Director and Supervising Teacher
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Help meet physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities and maintain a positive relationship between parents and school personnel. Position is subject to include Adaptive PE or Music/Fine Arts.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will), Clerical/Technical Pay Grade 3 185 days, estimated 8 hours daily, Wage/Hour status: Nonexempt
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED; 2. Minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test to be administered by the District; 3. Experience working with students or parents;
4. Ability to work with children with disabilities;
5. Desire and ability to work with and communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Efficiently positions and repositions students 2. Safely lifts/transfers students using lift or with 1 & 2 person lifts.
3. Assists students in feeding routines by following IEP goals and teacher instruction
4. Assists students in personal care and hygiene by following IEP goals and teacher instruction 5. Follows classroom and student schedules using student’s communication level and visual system
6. Follows student’s behavior management plan
7. Intervenes during crisis situations using approved campus research based strategies such as TBSI, NCI, ABA, etc. 8. Treats students with respect verbally and physically 9. Sets up room and schedules for next activities/ routines (includes schedules, materials, etc.) 10. Accurately records and assists with data including IEP/Medicaid/ Behavior etc. 11. Follows teacher directions for assigned tasks after being instructed accurately and without frequent reminders, including activities outside of class such as music, PE, & horseback riding.
12. Understands and is able to assist with the implementation of IEP goals related to research based and peer reviewed strategies such as but not limited to PECS, ECT routines, Communication Routines, Schedule routines, Cognitive Routines, Work tasks, job skills
13. Understands and is able to use and program the assistive technology required to implement the IEP goals for classroom students. (devices may include but are not limited to switches, simple voice output such as Go Talks and Seven levels, complicated voice out put such as Dynavox, etc) 14. Assist assigned students or small groups, implement instructional activities, and individual student goals as assigned by the classroom and/or specials teachers.
15. Assist assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes music and/or PE (as scheduled), lunchroom, bus, and playground duty 16. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students. 17. Collaborate & share information with staff outside of the classroom (music, PE, horseback riding, General Ed) regarding individual student needs & special instructions from the classroom. 18. Cleans classroom equipment on a regular basis. 19. Monitors and performs medical procedures as trained and directed by the nursing staff such as but not limited to: gastrostomy feedings, suctioning, tracheotomy suctioning and care, nebulizer treatments, temperature control, minor emergencies, catherization, etc) 20. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned. 21. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business; demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.
22. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
23. Meets attendance standards and complies with campus notification procedures for absences as well as clocking in/out on time 24. Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business. 25. Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business. 26. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
27. Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures. 28. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance. 29. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
30. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: Wheelchairs, walkers, gait trainers, standing frames, lifts, ramps, adaptive equipment, oxygen gauges, medical equipment, computers, assistive technology devices, spa, various gym equipment, musical instruments, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students (50 lbs or more); work in proximity to horses and dogs; work in spa as assigned; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
