What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Mechanical Engineer position at U.S. Energy?

Position Summary

To perform mechanical engineering design services and other related mechanical development support throughout all stages of the project life cycle with minimal supervision from other more senior engineers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a broad and in-depth product knowledge base along with full understanding of all departmental procedures.
  • Assist other engineers or upper management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor.
  • Help coordinate, mentor, and guide less experienced engineers’ efforts
  • Develop mechanical components and system concepts that satisfy business and compliance needs/demands.
  • Ability to read, review and create P&IDs, PFDs, layout drawings and piping fabrication isometric drawings using various AutoCAD products such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Ability to model/assemble parts/components in 3D using various AutoCAD products such as Inventor, Revit and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Provide selection and specifications of tanks, valves, pumps and other mechanical equipment.
  • Apply necessary NFPA, API and ASME standards to ensure design compliance in the project permitting stage to final inspections.
  • Perform calculations
  • Checking and approval of drawing packages and calculations
  • Develop and execute mechanical design verification test plans per requirements specifications to ensure prototypes meet design requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews for projects to ensure quality design output.
  • Complete all as-built updates to drawings upon completion of projects.
  • Maintain the drawing database and vault to ensure a consolidated record of all projects is kept.
  • Confer with engineering management and project engineers on problems encountered and questions arising on projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Actively participates in Lean and strategic planning
  • Support corporate efforts for safety and government compliance
  • Support and follow all corporate policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology is required for this position
  • Suggested minimum of 5-10 years’ experience as an mechanical engineer or related position
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel up to 50% (travel varies from 0%-50%).
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test (do not test for THC / marijuana)

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive business relationships
  • Possess strong analytical skills and strong knowledge of mechanical design
  • Good listener with strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Action oriented, self-motivated
  • Able to deal with a variety of people and situations in a positive and open-minded manner
  • Well organized and represent the company in a professional manner
  • Ethical and trustworthy
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.)
