Schedules patients for procedures in Diagnostic Services and Cardiovascular Departments as well as Outpatient Laboratory and Sleep Lab, Pulmonary Function, and EEG. Check patients in for some imaging procedures. Performs all duties associated with clinical aspects of the hospital radiology information system.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Graduate of a medical secretary training program, Medical Assistant Program, or 1-2 years of experience in a medical office environment.
3. Previous computer experience.

1. Complete patient information forms according to department policies and procedures. (Example: Biopsy request/approval Forms)
2. Verifies written physician orders for outpatient exams when appropriate and enters them in to the EMR.
3. Upon scheduling exams, verify need for precertification for specific exams.
4. Conveys specific patient preparation information to patient, family members, or physicians for all procedures scheduled in assigned departments.
5. Utilize RIS to generate requisitions for charging and crediting of imaging procedures and related functions as indicated in department policy and procedure manual.
6. Demonstrate proficiency with regards to the computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, and CD burning systems.
7. Schedule diagnostic and cardiovascular procedures, Outpatient Lab, Sleep Lab, Cath Lab, Pulmonary Function, and EEG according to department policies and procedures.
8. Perform exam order entry for out-patients using RIS. Distributes exam requests on in-patients according to department policies and procedures.
9. Distributes reports and images to requesting physicians, patients, and/or other facilities according to department policies and procedures.
10. Prepares and sends referring physician notification of patient’s failure to keep scheduled appointments.
11. Receives and directs incoming phone calls, including message taking and distribution according to department policy and procedure.
12. Upon ordering exams, verifies medical necessity for specific exams using Mediquant software.
13. Ensure procedures requiring authorization are completed and enter the Referral/authorization information in to the EMR to ensure payment for services.
14. Utilize Dare to Care software to schedule patients as well as greet and check patients in for these exams.
15. Responsible for calling out technologists during off hours as requested by the ordering physician, as well as serve as a witness/observer for the Male Ultrasound technologists when they are performing certain exams for a female patient.
16. Uploads Pillcam studies in to the software so that it can be read.
17. Knowledge of billing and authorization protocols and procedures.

2. Must be capable of performing all functions associated with the use of telephone, including but not limited to receiving calls, dialing and placing calls, transferring calls, taking accurate phone messages/return telephone numbers, etc.
3. Must be knowledgeable in various aspects of the hospital computer systems including, but not limited to, patient registration, generating patient orders, entering insurance authorization information, etc.
