Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The employee in this position installs, repairs, and/or maintains mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, concrete, brick and block work, HVAC systems, plumbing system, sprinkler system, refrigeration system, tile setting, pipe fitting appliance repair, flooring and floor repair, repaid of roads, sign installation, inspection of sprinkler system, smoke detectors, receptacle environmental rounds, emergency lighting, wiring, light bulbs, fire extinguisher and maintains and cares for 100 acres of hospital grounds.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

Education/Training: 

  • High School or equivalent. Philadelphia Grade A Stationery License

 

Experience:

  • Two to three years’ experience in maintenance. Electrician license, Master Plumbing license, or Refrigeration certificate desirable.

____ Adults (age 18-64)        ____ Geriatric (age 65 )

____ Adolescents (age 13-17)

 

Patients; families; direct-care service providers; external funding sources; service, accreditation, and licensing agencies; external case managers; other staff; and the community.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions.  Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.  Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease.  Requires walking and standing often.  Requires frequently speaking on the telephone.  Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart.  Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.  Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.  Ability to perform HWC techniques.  Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, attending physicians, and other department representatives.

 

Protective equipment required: The hazards associated with this position are the use of chemicals for cleaning of drains, removal of paint, charging and cleaning air conditions, fuel oil burners, detergents for cleaning, gasoline and diesel fuels for engines, and other chemicals associated with a general maintenance department such as; insecticides, fungicides, propane, acetylene, and chemicals for water treatment.

Other hazards to this position are: cutting metals and wood, welding, hammering, burning with torches, the operation of a variety of power tools, driving of vehicles and operating dump trucks and tractors, and working in areas where there may be high noise levels at times.

Machines, tools, equipment and work aids used: Drill press, welding equipment, drills, saws, pipe threading machines, compressors, specifications, and hand tools.  Also, various tools and equipment used in repair and installation of floors, roofs, concrete.

 

 

Employees may be required to:

  • Work first, second or third shift or any day of the week
  • Travel by car and/or air

Physical/General:

Environment:  Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated area, with high traffic flow of patients, visitors, staff, and others.

 

Job Hazards:

 

Employee may be exposed to:

  • Internal/External disasters in which appropriate policies, procedures, and plans must be followed to protect personnel, patients, and staff;
  • Infections/communicable diseases and hazardous/toxic agents.
  • Encounter some chemicals listed in the MSDS sheets.

Other:   Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention with physically aggressive patients which may involve some personal risk.

  

Occupational Safety and Health Administration:  Blood Borne Pathogens Standards, CFR 1910.1030

 

This position is susceptible to reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or potential contact with blood or other potentially infectious material that may result from the performance of an employee’s duties or “occupational exposure.”  However, all employees have access to the facility’s Exposure Control Plan and MSDS Sheets.   Knowledge of appropriate policies, procedures, and plans is required. 

EXPOSURE: Category 1-Blood borne disease exposure through contact with contaminate blood and body fluids.
