Position Summary: Medical Office Specialist - Patient Call Center

The Call Center Specialist performs the duties required to schedule patients for appointments at MPA offices. The scheduler communicates any preparations needed to the patient (including new patient paperwork) and communicates appointment related information to the offices as needed. Call Center Specialist are required to pre-register new patients in Cerner. Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times. The Call Center Specialist is responsible for answering incoming calls into the practice and functions as the department liaison. This includes insurance verification and a working knowledge of insurance terms, and reimbursement procedures, medical terminology, and practice services. Inputs statistical information into appropriate systems. Other duties as assigned.

  3. Demonstrated skill on computer input and/or personal computer operation.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  5. Multi-task and detailed oriented.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills

 

The Medical Office Specialist is responsible for front desk coverage for the medical practice which includes registration, check-in, collecting co-pays, scheduling appointments, billing patients, and scanning records into EMR, reports, and correspondence. Possesses medical terminology knowledge, organization and communication skills, ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions, and professional appearance, all while maintaining a calm disposition, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Reliable, tactful, honest and discreet in maintaining confidentiality at all times. Must be able to carry out specific assignments to successful conclusion.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):

 

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completed a Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Minimum of one year of medical experience preferred.
  • Job requires being reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and
  • programming.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
