POSITION SUMMARY
The Nurse Educator is responsible for managing and directing the activities related to the education of Registered Nurses, LPNs and Mental Health Technicians in established standards of care, mental health practice and facility policy, goals, and objectives. This position contributes to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and quality improvement efforts, while providing guidance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required, Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of charge nurse/leadership experience is preferred.
- Management and nursing education experience in a psychiatric health-care facility is also preferred.
Licensure:
- RN must have license to practice by state board of nursing.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
Additional Requirements:
- CPR (AED) and Handle with Care & Verbal De-Escalation Training is required within 30 days of employment.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission/CMS, OSHA, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Must pass (80% or higher) medication test as well as demonstrate proficiency in medication administration.

- Thorough knowledge of psychiatric and medical procedures within scope of practice.
- Knowledge of all code procedures.
- Knowledge of state mental health laws, and abuse laws, and the DSHS provider agreement.
- Organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
- Adherence to safety policies and procedures and ability to follow calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Collaborative nature that allows you to work as a strong team player.
- Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
- Recognition of the importance of adapting to the various patient demographics (adolescent, adult and geriatric).
- Previous experience working successfully in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
- Capability of meeting corporate deadlines.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
- Ability to move frequently is required in the delivery of patient care.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, twist, and stoop in the delivery of patient care. Lifting and holding a patient may be required without assistance.
- Ability to work inside with air conditioning in summer and heat in winter.
- Visual acuity necessary for accurate reading of gauges, patient changes, and reports.
