Responsibilities
Assist in care of hospital patients under the direction of nursing and the medical staff. Position is responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing care, and for promoting teamwork among co-workers.
- Observe telemetry monitors, respond to alarms and/or disconnects, document changes in patient rhythms and notification of nurse (full name) caring for patient.
- Insures that patients are monitored at all time by trained staff when having to leave the telemetry area (i.e. breaks, meals, etc)
- Assist physicians in locating Dysrhythmia records.
- Assist with orientation of new personnel on basic dysrhythmia interpretation.
- Demonstrates competence in recognition and handling of life threatening and non-life threatening rhythms based on sight interpretation and EKG measurements.
- Communicate accurately the interpretation of the patient’s telemetry rhythm to the nursing staff, physicians (if appropriate), including changes, disconnections, and low battery messages in a timely manner.
- Provides documentation of rhythm strips according to the unit policy 601-177 Telemetry.
- Insure patients on telemetry are coded correctly in the computer system (i.e. patient type ‘H’)
- Participate in classes that assist in assessing staff needs; to include random testing on interpretation of EKG rhythms.
- Consistently organizes and keeps workspace tidy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED required. College coursework preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in healthcare field with emphasis in clerical experience and high degree of public contact.
- Completion of in-house health stream e-learning module on basic dysrhythmia and EKG class.
- Legible handwriting, typing skills.
- Experience with patient care activities
- Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.
- Medical terminology preferred.
- Basic computer skills required.
