uic
Chicago, IL Part Time
POSTED ON 12/8/2024 CLOSED ON 2/8/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct Professor (Part-Time) - UIC Law position at uic?

Position Summary
The UIC School of Law, Chicago's only public law school, is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Adjunct Professor to join our team and teach courses in the Juris Doctor program. This is a part-time, non-tenure-track position offering an opportunity to contribute to the intellectual development of future legal professionals.

Adjunct Professors normally are appointed for one semester at a time and teach one or two courses in an academic year.

Most courses are taught in person at our downtown Chicago campus, during the day or evening; some also include synchronous or asynchronous online components. A learning management system is used to post syllabi and other materials and communicate with students. Adjunct faculty are required to participate in orientation and training sessions and to comply with academic and institutional policies.

To be considered for an adjunct faculty position, candidates should submit an online application, including a PDF copy of a resume or curriculum vitae; names and contact information (preferably including telephone numbers and email addresses) for three references familiar with the applicant's practice or teaching credentials; and a cover letter or other document identifying the specific courses or programs at the School of Law for which the applicant wishes to be considered.

Candidates are asked to refer to the information posted at https://go.uic.edu/lawadjuncts before submitting an application. Specific courses and programs for which the School of Law anticipates hiring adjunct faculty in the near future are posted on that page. Individuals with less than five years of law practice experience who otherwise meet the qualifications for this position should instead consider applying for the Adjunct Teaching Associate position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging and rigorous classroom instruction for the assigned course(s), adhering to the established curriculum and learning objectives.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods (e.g., lectures, case studies, simulations) to foster active learning and critical thinking among students.
  • Prepare and distribute clear and concise course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and exams.
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, and participation, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Stay current on relevant legal developments and scholarship in the assigned area of law.
