What are the responsibilities and job description for the FIRST RESPONDER position at UNC Health Blue Ridge?
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing basic, non-invasive medical care in situations such as an accident, injury or other minor medical emergency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to medical emergencies during sports practices/games, assess patient’s condition and provide non-invasive medical care..
- Perform basic first aid procedures under a provider’s supervision
- If needed, secure broken limbs, control blood loss
- Assist with coordination to further advanced care If necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School graduate; completion of Emergency Medical Technician Program, current certification as a EMR or EMT or EMT-Paramedic.
Experience: Two years work related experience preferred
Other: Knowledge of sport-related injuries and basic concussion assessment. Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Must complete and maintain training in concussion management and injury prevention as offered by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires range of motion within functional limits. Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling. Pushing 40#, pulling 80#. Occasional lifting items of 35 pounds from ground/floor to 53”. Frequent standing, walking. Occasional sitting. Functional vision and hearing, manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination.
