What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Intern position at Unicity USA Inc?
Summary/Objective:
The R&D intern will be responsible for R&D laboratory ingredients inventory and tracking system, assisting with tasting studies, conducting ingredients and products research as assigned, and assisting other members of the Research and Development team.
Essential Functions:
- Improve and maintain the R&D Lab
- Maintain the database of all laboratory ingredients
- Ensure available ingredients are within expiration and restock expiring ingredients
- Ensure proper stock of ingredients for key product formulations
- Maintain COAs for ingredients
- Replenish other lab supplies as needed
- Improve ingredient organization system and storage spaces
- Assist Formulators with Research
- Conduct ingredient literature searches and generate scientific reports together with full scientific articles in electronic form
- Research market and/or ingredient and product trends using company resources and keep a full record of them
- Assist Formulators with Taste testing project
- Conduct and document taste testing projects for both new products and for material equivalency projects
- Assist in document/process storage
- Assist in gathering documents for R&D scientists
- Assist in storing and retrieving documents
- Assist R&D Team in other projects as approved by R&D leadership
- Presentations, organization, etc.
- Attend Team meetings as assigned by R&D leadership
- Coordinate with team members
- Give updates for the team

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, and filing cabinets.
Physical demands:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time, up to 30 hours/week
- Turn the schedule in for approval to ensure workload is taken care of and well distributed
- Primary work location is Unicity Provo Utah offices

Required Education & Experience:
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED with good grades in science/math classes
- Intermediate/advanced computer skills (MS Office, data entry)
- Education or experience working in related scientific field: Food science, biology, biochemistry, health and wellness, botany, chemistry, etc.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Junior/Senior in 4-year degree program preferred
- Writing scientific research papers or essays
Work Authorization/Security Clearance:
- US citizenship or legally able to work in the United States
