Monitor, Child and Adult Care Food Program
Department: Family Services
Reports to: Family Child Care Network Director
Hours: Full-Time
Salary: $38,000
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: On-site


Position Summary:

Union Settlement is seeking a proactive candidate who is creative, flexible, detail-oriented, and collaborative to lead its Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). CACFP is a USDA program that reimburses family childcare providers for the nutritious meals and snacks they serve to eligible children. The CACFP Monitor provides ongoing in-home monitoring and yearly nutritional training. The CACFP Monitor also provides linkages to professional development opportunities, and coaching and technical assistance to support childcare provider's efforts to achieve and maintain quality standards. The CACFP Monitor will also serve as a liaison with partner agencies and organizations. Responsibilities:
  • Assist in designing and delivering a comprehensive array of services to promote, enroll, and sustain increased participation in CACFP.
  • For each program year, assist in recruiting new providers (registered/licensed) through the distribution of materials showing the benefits and supports.
  • Prepare CACFP packets for new providers on the food program.
  • Assist in the planning, organization, and delivery of mandated training sessions to groups of providers as required.
  • Maintain records related to mandatory training completion. (Attendance)
  • Conduct monitoring visits (announced and unannounced) throughout the borough of Manhattan in accordance with contract requirements and timelines to childcare provider homes.
  • Ensure that posted daily menus coincide with submitted paperwork, track meal counts, and file meal count documentation.
  • Communicate and report outcome/visit findings and assist in creating a corrective action plan when necessary.
  • Provide targeted technical assistance to new and experienced providers according to their assessed needs in nutritional planning, meal/snack service, and documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings and supervision sessions.
  • Other duties related to CACFP as assigned by the Family and Childcare Network Director.
Qualifications:
  • AA in Nutrition, Early Childhood Education, Human Service or related field. At a minimum, a CDA coupled with direct work experience with CACFP.
  • Knowledge of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Exposure to and respect for early care and education, and family child care specifically.
  • Proficiency with technology, including database and spreadsheet applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds and cultures, demonstrating cultural responsiveness.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Understanding of how intersecting systems of race, gender, and class shape conditions for family childcare providers and the children and families they serve.
  • A desire to contribute to a workplace and profession that values collaboration, diversity, growth, and respect for all people.
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred.
