We are looking for talented team players to join our team and perform all aspects of railcar inspection, maintenance, and repair services for our valued customers. The successful candidate must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and schematics, make railcar repairs in compliance with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) regulations and rules, ensure all company safety and quality standards are met, and keep good records of repair details using both written and electronic tools.

Primary Job Functions
- Understand and perform all work outlined under Supervision
- Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
- Perform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair procedures
- Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when required
- Occasionally performing welding repairs when needed
- Coordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards.
- Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
- Interact well with team members and supervision
- Meet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best-in-class customer experience
- Ensure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and complete
- Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
- Follow all safety rules and practices
- May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to pass background check
- Ability to pass drug screening (Some sites require DISA drug screen)
- Ability to pass a physical exam
- Demonstrate job-related knowledge including following written instructions
- Demonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
- Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtime
- Ability to learn basic railcar knowledge
- Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
- Ability to pass DOT Requirements is a plus
- Ability to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permits
- Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
- Ability to obtain the following within 6 - 12 months (timeline and required test depend on specific location): Welding and Airbrake Test certifications
- Any type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is a preferred
- Must be legal to work in the United State now and in the future without sponsorship requirements
Environmental and Working Conditions
The physical environment for this job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, or dry and dusty conditions. The employee may be frequently exposed to heights that require the use of fall protection equipment. Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions and job function details dictate.

- Moderate to heavy physical effort involved, must be comfortable lifting 35lbs consistently
- Lifts and carries necessary equipment to railcar to perform work
- Safely climbs, walks, and balances on top of railcars while performing repair work
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury
- Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
- Must be able to wear a respirator
- Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to physically fit into a man-way opening as small as 20” in diameter
- Must be able to pass company physical exam
