Assists Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by performing imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care to support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.

Assists Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists by performing imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care to support the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Completion of first year of an Accredited Radiography School and enrolled as a second year student.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills. (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).

2. Performs image procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols under the direct supervision of Radiologic Technologists.

3. Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving under the supervision of a Radiologic Technologist.

4. Select exposure factors based on patient's size, condition, and pathology resulting in optimal image quality, utilizing minimal radiation exposure under the supervision of a Radiologic Technologist.

5. Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients and other staff by the use of shielding, collimation, application of the inverse square law, and minimizing repeat exposures.

6. Assists Radiologic Technologists in preparing contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays; which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.

7. Navigates transport details and patient transfers.

8. Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.

9. Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.

10. Sets up and prepares exam rooms for general and fluoroscopic studies. Sets up and removes OR Radiography equipment.

11. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.

12. Positions patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.

13. Participates in coordination of daily work flow.

1. Lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. Carrying items up to 20 pounds.

2. Wear a lead apron weighing up to 15 pounds for extended periods of time.

3. Stand and walk for extended periods of time.

1. Exposure to minimal radiation with in the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by radiation safety and use of dosimeter.

2. Exposure to airborne particles and body fluids.

3. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team.

2. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.

4. Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment.

5. Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient's condition, age, or ability.
