POSITION SUMMARY: The School Monitor will be responsible to provide maximum security of youth participants, persons and property while improving the atmosphere for the conduct during UAU programming. The work involves responsibility for insuring the safety of students and staff, maintaining order, protecting school property and enforcing school rules and regulations. There is no classroom assistance of teachers of an instructional nature. Supervision is exercised over the conduct of students in during UAU programming mainly within the confines of the restrooms, hallway and stairwells.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Patrols school halls, stairwells, restrooms, and other parts of school buildings and grounds to protect persons and property, maintain order and insure compliance.
- Questions persons on school premises who are not students or staff and advises as to school rules and either directs visitors to school offices or asks them to leave.
- Reports daily to the Program Director and Assitant Program Director on problems, incidents and conditions either verbally or in writing.
- May monitor and supervise the loading of busses and follows buses along their assigned routes or on field trips to make sure no discipline problems develop.
- Inform appropriate school personnel of ongoing student behavior and behavior related issues.
- Escort and assist students to assigned areas.
- Perform set up and clean up duties every day in alignment with Department of Health regulations and UAU policies.
- Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by the Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD and UAU.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
● 18 years old, required
● High School diploma or GED (Highschool Equivalency Diploma), required
● Matriculated college student or better from an accredited university or college, preferred
● 1 year experience working with adolescents, preferred
● 1 year experience in a school based setting/ environment
● Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based perspective
● Must be culturally competent - ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures and age ranges
● Must pass reference checks and background as designated by DOH, DOE, DYCD and UAU
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Strong problem solving and mathematical skills
● Excellent organizational and time management skills
● Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently
● Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
● Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes
