What are the responsibilities and job description for the Daycare Floater position at United Cerebral Palsy?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of the Teacher’s Floater is to “float” between assigned
Classrooms to provide break periods for the Lead Teachers and Teacher’s Aides.
While in the classroom the Teacher’s Floater will:
Assist the Lead Teacher and /or Teacher’s Aides in providing supervision to the children enrolled is assigned classrooms. The Floater shall participate in all classroom activities including individual learning time, group time, center time, snack and lunch time, and outdoor/free time in accordance with BLC policies, Minimum Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers, and the UCP Employee Handbook.
1. Assist Lead Teacher and/or Teacher’s Aide in meeting the physical needs of the
children indicated by their daily schedules as well as any time additional care is
needed. Duties shall include, but are not limited to, assisting with toileting skills,
diapering, changing pull-ups/undergarments, assisting with personal
hygiene/cleanliness (washing face and hands, brushing teeth, changing clothing,
etc.), and assisting with feeding skills during snack and mealtimes.
2. Assist the Lead Teacher and/or Teacher’s Aide in meeting the additional needs
of the children with disabilities. Duties shall include, but are not limited to,
assisting with tube feedings, orthotic braces, special seating needs, walkers,
wheelchairs, and any other prescribed daily medical needs. Individualized
training will be provided by qualified UCP staff or parents as needed.
3. Assist the Lead Teacher and/or Teacher’s Aide with daily maintenance of the classroom.
Assist with keeping all toys and materials clean, neat, and orderly. Assist all staff in keeping
the playroom and playground areas neat and orderly to ensure overall cleanliness and safety.
Assist in reporting any toys, equipment, fixtures, floors, etc. which are in need of repair on any
part of the preschool property to the Assistant Director or Director.
4. Communicating with parents and other BLC staff is a very important and essential requirement
of all Teachers and Aides. All communications should be kept professional and friendly,
whether verbal or written, and should always preserve confidentially. Defer all communication
matters of special importance to the Lead Teacher, Assistant Director or Director.
5. Complies with agency policies and procedures as written in UCP Employee Handbook and
Butterfly Learning Center Policy and Procedures, including but not limited to dress code, drug
and alcohol policy, and 25 hours annually of TAPP approved training directly related to
children in your age group.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience in child care or CDA related field and knowledge of child growth and development is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and understanding of BLC Policies and Procedures as well as Licensure Standards. Communicate effectively with coworkers and parents both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Caring for children is physically demanding. You will be lifting and carrying children, moving equipment and you will be expected to clean and maintain our facility. The Lead Teacher will spend time on the floor or in a child sized furniture. The Lead Teacher will come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children parents, team members, and themselves.
The physical conditions should be sufficient to permit the thorough performance of the duties of the position and emotional stability should be maintained. The Preschool Lead Teacher must obtain a Health Certificate annually.
The employee must be able to physically lift or move children up to five. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to visually observe children and the ability to focus.
