Description
To provide substitute teaching for classroom Teachers and Assistants, as needed, when Teachers are sick or not available, following developmentally appropriate standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be willing to enroll in a Child Development Associate (CDA) or Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Experience preferred

EDUCATION:
The Substitute Teacher works with the Head Teacher and Teacher Assistant providing classroom instruction and activities. They follow the daily activity plan and prepares educational materials and special projects. They help with self-care routines, small and large group activities, supervises children at all times by sight, sound, and the ability to intervene at a moment’s notice. Helps parents feel comfortable in their role as classroom helpers and involves parents in activities and projects.
CLASSROOM MAINTENANCE:
Will maintain educational supplies and art materials, monitor equipment and cooperate with the Teacher/Teacher Assistant to maintain an orderly classroom environment. This includes assisting children at mealtime and activity time.
OTHER:
Must complete minimally two after program hours childcare shifts for family events per school year. May include Head Start Bus Monitor shifts in supervision of children being transported to or from the program as well as field trips. May be scheduled to fill long term Special Accommodations Grant 1:1 needs or a regular education staff leave of absence.
