Position Summary:
The Resident Advisor works closely with the Program Manager and Case Manager to ensure that a wide range of services are properly provided in a nurturing and supportive environment. The Resident Advisor actively engages with the residents of Mary Ellen’s Hearth and provides support and encouragement toward their success. The Resident Advisor ensures the safety of the residents and visitors.
Responsibilities:
- Develop supportive relationships with residents. Encourage and assist residents in achieving their goals.
- Help develop an atmosphere in which residents have concern and respect for the rights of others.
- Empower and educate residents to resolve and mediate conflicts appropriately.
- Uphold all agency rules and policies.
- Document and report residents’ concerns, safety concerns, and maintenance need to the Program Manager prior the end of each shift.
- Understand and implement crisis protocols as appropriate.
- Conduct building rounds to build relationships with residents and monitor for safety concerns as well as ensuring program compliance.
- Participate and complete in assigned housekeeping duties.
- Seek support and guidance from the Program Manager for unusual situations.
- Share ideas for improvement during staff meetings and individual meetings with the Program Managers.
- Maintain First Aid and CPR training.
- Functions in accordance with appropriate Job Guide and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent certification (GED).
- Six (6) months of paid experience working in a residential environment with youth and/or families required.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Experience working with homeless population preferred.
- Must be physically able to participate in various activities of residents.
- Using the English language must have verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills that allow for professional interaction with staff and residents.
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality as situations dictate.
- Must have a valid driver's license from the state of residence.
- Must have proof of automobile liability insurance and driving record that will allow coverage on the Agency’s insurance policy.
- Must receive a satisfactory background check that includes a check of employment and personal references, criminal history, driving background, Child Abuse & Neglect (Alabama) Registry, and pass a pre-employment physical examination including a TB skin test and drug screen.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision: Must be able to drive, read reports, observe conditions related to work, view computer screens, etc.
- Cognitive: Must be able to think independently, logically, and problem solve.
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, employees, families and the general public.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must be able to stand to open files and operate office machines, mobility to drive, get in and out of private homes as well as a work area, some standing for prolonged periods for presentation. Normal coordination including eye-hand and hand-foot.
- Climbing/Stooping, Kneeling: Must be able to stoop and kneel as needed to file, retrieve documents, assist families and perform CPR and First Aid, etc.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to lift and carry up case files, laptop computer which may weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Manual Dexterity: Must be able to write, type, use telephone system, file, drive, etc.
