What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chaplain | Part-time position at United Methodist Retirement Communities?
Hours: 20 hours per week, non-exempt/ hourly, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Schedule: 3 days per week & 1-2 Sunday worship/ other services per month

Overview
The Chaplain provides spiritual, and religious counseling or guidance to residents and may be directed by the Director of Lifestyle and Wellness.
What you’ll do
Religious Services
- Facilitate worship practices and spiritual growth opportunities that are important to all faith traditions.
- Conduct regularly scheduled religious services for residents.
- Perform rites, penance, communion (Holy Eucharist), funerals etc., as requested.
Support and Guidance
- Develop meaningful pastoral relationships/network within the community by visiting regularly with residents on a casual basis.
- Support leadership in maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the community.
- Provide spiritual support to residents and team members during periods of crisis, death and dying, grief and loss as needed.
- Assist dying residents to meet their needs, carry out their desires and preserve their dignity.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain and submit records/reports of pastoral activities, as required, and prepare necessary information for inclusion in resident's medical records.
- Serve on various committees or work groups as directed.
Interfaith and Multicultural Engagement
- Respect and understand diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.
- Facilitate interfaith dialogue and cooperation, promoting inclusivity and respect.
What it takes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service field and Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent.
- Ordained and in good standing with one's ecclesiastical body.
- Must have, as a minimum, 3 years’ experience in a pastoral ministry with significant time spent working with the elderly.
- Must be duly ordained in accordance with laws of the State of Michigan
- Association of Professional Chaplains certification preferred.
