U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal seeks a dynamic deputy press secretary in his Hartford, CT office to assist the State Communications Director with coordinating and executing all in-state media activities. Responsibilities include closely tracking local media coverage; planning, organizing and staffing press events; coordinating interview opportunities for the Senator; drafting press releases, memos and talking points; and working closely with constituents, community stakeholders and other members of the Senator’s Connecticut and DC press and legislative teams. The ideal candidate will be able to work diligently under tight deadlines, is self-motivated and detail-oriented, and can deliver high quality communications across both print and visual mediums. Competitive candidates should have at least two years of press and/or political communications experience, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, or closely related field. A background in government, political or non-profit organizations is helpful, as are skills in DSLR photography and videography.
