Position Summary

United Way of Central Indiana recognizes that the key to success is a strong and cohesive team that works through shared values to achieve our mission. The Manager of Donor Relations will manage a comprehensive, integrated donor recognition program as a crucial part of the Major Gifts team. The goal of the Major Gifts team is to cultivate and steward leadership, Tocqueville, Meridian and Transformational donors. The Manager of Donor Relations will work with the Major Gifts team to create a comprehensive program to ensure that donors receive a premier benefit and engagement experience through United Way. Additionally, the Manager will work with the United Way Giving Societies. The goal is to increase donor retention and engagement by enhancing the donor experience.


Position Duties & Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.


Individual Fundraising/Donor Meetings

  • Meetings discussing donor's giving and interests.
  • Annually making asks from portfolio of 100-125 donors to increase their giving, including board member giving. Donor gifts range from $1,000-$9,999.
  • Responsible for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of extensive portfolio of current leadership donors with the purpose of increasing and retaining revenue.
  • Achieve donor call expectations (40 annually) and annual fundraising goals.


Develop and Maintain Donor Benefits

  • Plan and oversee all leadership donor events, including post event strategies.
  • Develop and implement donor benefits for all donors giving $1,000-$9,999 designed to retain and increase giving.
  • Create donor engagement benefit strategy for UW life donors.


Maintaining Donor Relationships

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive system of donor recognition including protocols and reports.
  • Coordinating personal thank you's, donor research, phone calls, intentional emails to update donors on the work of United Way and their personal lives and interests.
  • Explore and implement target identification, research, prospect management, event-based relationship building techniques and proper communication with donors and prospects.

Donor Communication

  • Manage and develop strategy for annual donor communication. Includes Forever United Network newsletter.
  • Develop communications and awareness plans in tandem with UWCI marketing team.

Strategic Planning

  • Planning to engage donors through meaningful benefits year-round included, but not limited to: email, direct mail, and events.


Database Management

  • Recording and tracking donor calls, and emails.
  • Maintain accurate reports of current donors list for the Forever United Network ($1,000 ), prospects, and lapsed donors.


Communication

  • Regular email communication between UWCI staff and external donors.


Trainings/Workgroups:

  • Participate in training/workgroups as required.


Annual Goals:
Achieve established goals. Work with the Sr. Manager to ensure goals reflect and align and contribute to the broader goals of the organization.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree required. At least two years of fundraising experience preferred. Knowledge of the central Indiana community and the human service sector is preferred.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism, ability to resolve conflict constructively, strong performance management and evaluation capabilities including the willingness and ability to ensure accountability, ability to build strong relationship both inside and outside UWCI, ability to think strategically, commitment to fostering an inclusive environment consistent with UWCI's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Must have the ability to prepare, explain, and monitor performance, manage a diverse group of donors and volunteers, manage projects and workload, and engage constructively with the other members of the UWCI team.
