Job Description
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Health program area is one of the main focus areas of United Way of Central Maryland. UWCM’s Health area takes a holistic approach to health. We share the World Health Organization’s definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not just the absence of sickness or frailty. We share the viewpoint that health is a social phenomenon that is influenced by the social determinants of health, such as public policies, social systems, and the physical environments in which we find ourselves. Public policies affect our ability to access needed healthcare, social services, or other environmental factors that influence health. Racial and economic disparities inherent in our social systems create systemic discrimination that can lead to trauma and inequities. The places where we live, grow, work, age, and play all influence our health. We address the social determinants of health using a holistic, data-driven, multi-generational approach. We promote equity by engaging stakeholders and empowering communities to advance health and happiness. We mobilize resources in response to emergency needs while co-creating long-term solutions that build healthy communities.
