United Way of Greater Cleveland is a “Flexible First” organization. “Flexible First” means that we embrace a hybrid model that allows employees to work both remotely and at our existing office. Employees will regularly work at our existing office for approximately 10 to 80 percent of their time each month based on business/operational needs, and the rest of the time they may work from a remote physical location of their choice within a reasonable commuting distance from the office which must be identified to the organization in advance. Human Resources and Hiring Manager will set expectations on the employee’s preferred time in office with consideration to business/operational needs. UWGC has not defined a reasonable distance and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re: time commitment and cost of daily commute.

Purpose of Position:
The Senior Director, Development has direct oversight of all workplace campaigns and foundation giving for the purpose of achieving the annual and long-range fundraising goals of the United Way of Greater Cleveland (UWGC). This includes managing a portfolio of companies and grants as well as managing a team of Associate Directors, and a Donor Experience Manager, Grants Manager and Associate Grants Writer.
Monday through Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm. Hybrid Maybe required to work outside of standard work schedule.
Salary range $92,242.31 - $147,567.71
Corporate Workplace Campaigns:
This position is responsible for: 1.) designing and initiating current and new workplace and annual giving strategies to ensure United Way initiatives and programs are aligned with company strategies.2.) Using innovative means for fundraising in order to connect donors with the needs of the community and for building and maintaining relationships with volunteers, business leaders, and campaign managers, to name few. 3.) Identifies opportunities to implement efficiencies to allow for greater productivity with current workplace clients while expanding the base of workplace campaigns.
Foundation Relations:
This position is responsible for: 1.) Establishing long term partnerships, strengthening existing relationships, and building new connections with corporate foundations and within the national, state, and local foundation ecosystem and federal funding landscape. 2.) Collaboratively work with members of UWGC’s Community Investment team, Public Advocacy team, Finance department, and other key staff members to develop grant proposals and stewardship reports to maximize fundraising revenue. 3.) Collaboratively with members of UWGC’s Principal and Leadership Giving team on target individual giving strategies to help increase workplace campaign support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Essential Job Functions/Key Accountabilities:
Development
- Develops and implements annual engagement and campaign strategies or programs to sustain and increase corporate workplace, and foundation giving to achieve increasing revenue goals in collaboration with a team.
- Uses innovative means in designing and implementing strategies for increasing fundraising efforts.
- Develops effective evaluation and measuring strategies to ensure plans complement other programs and are in alignment to United Way’s policies and procedures.
- Monitors campaigns activity to evaluate annual fund activities, overall dollars raised, and other key performance indicators.
- Prepare reports and presentations to keep leadership informed of annual campaign progress.
- Builds, maintains and strengthens relationships necessary for operating an effective workplace giving program aimed at generating increased and new levels of revenue on an annual basis.
- Develops compelling requests for support including proposals for federal grant requests and federal appropriation submissions aligned with the UWGC’s Public Policy Advocacy team and their strategy.
- Develops strategy and collateral for prospect and donor visits for the President & CEO, VPRD, CCDO and Board members, as necessary.
Leadership Management
- Leads and coordinates the work of a staff of Associate Directors and Managers to effectively implement campaigns through cultivating and strengthening relationships with key corporate and individual donors.
- Works with staff to identify and secure new workplace partnerships.
- Collaborates with fundraising team to develop and execute the best approach to donor solicitation and engagement.
- Initiates staff training and mentoring for sales and relationship management techniques.
- Develops workforce plans; sets short- and long-term plans and revenue goals in order to promote growth of the annual campaign.
- Manages effectively by fostering an atmosphere of teamwork; ensures the professional development of staff by creating an environment for achieving personal and professional goals.
- Handles hiring and firing decisions; interviews, selects, collaborates on pay scales and trains incoming or existing staff.
- Develop and monitor department budget.
- Responsible for handling performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and conflict resolution.

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 8 years of development, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, marketing, grantwriting, fundraising experience in non-profit, government or private sector including prospect solicitation and management or the equivalent experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree strongly preferred

- Knowledge of the Cleveland and Northeast Ohio philanthropic community is an asset.
