Oakland Unity Middle School (www.unitymiddle.org) is seeking a credentialed P.E. Teacher for 2023-24

Oakland Unity Middle School (OUMS) is a middle school operated by Unity Schools. Unity Schools currently also operates Oakland Unity High School (OUHS) which was founded in 2003 as an independent charter high school open to all students in Oakland. 

The OUMS was founded by teacher leaders who worked for OUHS for many years. We are a new school in our third year of operation, but also have a great deal of experience in school management, operations, curriculum, and instruction.  Our team members enjoy a unique combination of the stability that comes from an organization with experience in this landscape and the chance to innovate in a new school setting.

Located in East Oakland, OUMS currently has 120 6th-8th grade students and will eventually grow to 225 students.  Over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and over 50% come from immigrant families whose home language is not English. We seek teachers who have the calling and determination to work with this population.

Qualifications:  Experience teaching P.E. and/or coaching. California Teaching Credential or eligibility to enter Internship program for teaching credential

Compensation: Starting $50,000 Up to $72,500 (depending on credential and experience)

Benefits:  Full health benefits (medical, dental and vision) for the employee and qualifying dependents retirement system through the California State Teachers Retirement System (CALSTRS) if credentialed the option of 403B enrollment 3% matched 457(b) retirement saving contribution after three years of employment
