Overview

This position is posted as a Clinical Nurse RN, however we are able to hire this role as either an RN, LPN or CMA. The Job Description listed below is for a Clinical Nurse.

Description of Position:

Provide a “snapshot” or the principal purpose or focus of the position, consisting of no more than three to five sentences. This summary should provide enough information to differentiate the major function and activities of the position from those of other positions.

· Assist in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management.

· Apply nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation within licensure guidelines).

· Demonstrate competence in the skills necessary to carry out assigned duties including medication/immunization administration by all routes.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

· Assist provider and other clinical staff in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management (basic vital information, obtain complete history regarding health problems according to protocols, preparing patient for examination, treatment and minor surgical procedures, commensurate with training and education).

· Apply Nursing Process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation – within licensure guidelines).

· Provide patient education regarding health maintenance and medical illnesses following accepted Teach-back method per protocols and guidelines.

· Provide appropriate, accurate, and timely documentation, regarding health concern and/or condition, in the patient’s electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes; obtained from patient or family members.

· Demonstrate competence in the skills necessary to carry out assigned duties.

· Administer medications by all routes.

· Placement of urinary catheters per license.

· Placement of IV per license and clinic policy.

· Evaluate clinical skills and practice of clinical care team.

· Supervision of delegated duties to License Practical Nurse and Certified Medical Assistants on approved clinical protocols.

· Demonstrate the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

· Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps, as appropriate to scope and licensure.

· Thoroughly understand anatomical impact (phases/stages, thresholds) for clinic specialty services including co-morbidities and influences impacting patient care and treatment.

· Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status; conduct follow up calls as necessary.

· Provide information to appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. health department).

· Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures. Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements

· Facilitate and support relationships between providers (e.g. within clinic, referring) and with ancillary services.

· Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

· Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.

· Perform other duties as requested by Clinic Administrator to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office

Development & Education

· Be aware of what is happening in the clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization’s intranet site.

· Meet the department work schedule.

· Maintain compliance with personnel, compliance, and HIPPA policies and procedures.

· Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.

· Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

· Knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

· Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.

· Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.

· Meets educational/competency requirements per policy

Experience:

· Will train qualified applicant

License(s)/Certification(s):

Must possess and maintain current:

· Registered Nurse license in good standing to practice in the state of Iowa.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

· Mandatory Reporter

· Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Strong computer skills.

· Ability to work as a team member.

· Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures

· Able to write, read, comprehend and speak fluent English.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
