RN, Virtual Inpatient Nurse
All training done on-site
Waterloo, IA - Allen Hospital
Part-time Nights 7pm-7am with occassional weekends
Contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process. Participates as a virtual member of the interdisciplinary team. The position will utilize technology to communicate to both inpatient nursing and patients/family members through workflows including, but not limited to admission, discharge, and education.
Responsibilities
CLINICAL EXCELLENCE:
- Assesses and documents patient status through a virtual interview.
- Assists nurses by scribing the physical assessment and other assessment parameters upon request.
- Develops an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and other members of the health care team.
- Completes required documentation as appropriate, including documenting in the medical record and event reports.
- Demonstrates technical knowledge of equipment and the ability to troubleshoot when problems arise.
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in evidence-based nursing practice and advances in virtual nursing practice.
- Demonstrates professional accountability for own practice as evidenced by seeking resources and continued self-development
VIRTUAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ensures all aspects of technology are functioning properly prior to usage.
- Proficient at conducting virtual assessment, scribing, and documenting admission/discharge processes.
- Analyzes clinical situations in a systematic way and acts to obtain resources or correct problems to meet or exceed expected outcomes or patient needs.
- Demonstrates ownership and persistence to ensure problem is resolved in best way possible.
- Consistently prioritizes work based on changes in patient condition, changes in assignment and unanticipated interruptions.
- Identifies and utilizes team resources to solve identified problems or needs.
- Actively promotes and achieves customer satisfaction (patient, family, nursing, practitioners, and a positive work environment by choosing an appropriate and meaningful communication style when interacting with others; gives and accepts constructive feedback to/from peers.
- Engage patients with excellent communication skills including eye contact, tone, professionalism, and welcoming presence.
- Should not perform any work for another employer or company during scheduled work hours.
VIRTUAL PATIENT AND STAFF EDUCATION:
- Adapts teaching strategies based on learner response and readiness to learn. Proficient in teach-back strategies.
- Takes cultural, age-specific, gender, and developmental factors into consideration when teaching patients about procedures, illness, hospital experience, etc.
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education. Identifies if the virtual education method is not appropriate for the patient condition/situation and consults with RN.
- Shares clinical knowledge through teaching and in response to the learning needs of others.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- 1 year hospital RN experience including utilization of the Electronic Medical Record.
- 3 years hospital med/surg RN experience preferred.
- Previous experience with virtual technology platforms preferred.
- Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse in primary state. Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.
- Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS preferred.
- Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
- Proficient computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.
- Multicultural sensitivity.
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
- Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals.
- Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes.
- Position is remote eligible based upon UPH’s Remote Work Policy. Additionally, home internet services must meet minimum requirements for technology required for the job.
- If working remotely as a virtual nurse, the role requires a private work environment free of distractions or foot traffic that could interfere with the privacy of our patients.
- Demonstrates appropriate web-side manner.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds.
