Position Summary:
Performs a variety of routine Respiratory Therapy duties including equipment cleaning & sterilization, equipment stocking, oxygen transports, oxygen rounds. Sets up and administers documents & charges for intermittent Respiratory Therapy modalities. After evaluation of competency, the Student RCP is allowed to perform all duties of an RCPS under the supervision of a credentialed RCP.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Obtains data pertinent to therapy by chart review and physical exam.
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol and humidity therapy, IPPB, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning, bedside respiratory measurements, pulse oximetry and EKG's as established by policies and procedures.
- Maintains asepsis with appropriate hand washing between patients.
- Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes equipment as needed according to CRCN policy. Routinely cleans and assemble departmental equipment before leaving shift. Checks for dirty equipment on assigned areas.
- Uses Two Patient Identifiers on all patients
- Applies knowledge of basic science through data review and physical examination, to identify signs and symptoms which require initiation of emergency procedures.
- Provides ventilatory management on adult, pediatric and neonatal patients only under direct supervision of credentialed staff or as defined by provisional licensure limitations.
- Responds to Code Blue situations quickly and efficiently. Perform CPR as needed. Consistently exchanges opened or unlocked carts. restocks crash cart post code
- Documents patient status and care given including heart rate, respiratory rate, SaO2, lung sounds and any adverse reactions. Consistently documents on plan of care.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in formal training school at an accredited respiratory program to obtain CRTT or RRT license.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- BLS required.
- Current provisional Oklahoma license required.
- One-year clinical experience demonstrating progress towards completion of educational requirements for RRT preferred.
- Employee must be proficient and master all basic respiratory modalities and responsibilities.
- Must be clinically trained in providing patient care modalities.
- Must be clinically checked off by clinical director of the ASRT school, and Director of the Cardio Pulmonary Department at SMRMC, in proficiency in clinical modalities.
- Basic computer skills required.
