What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coding Associate position at University Health?
POSITION SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direct supervision of the Outpatient Coding and Reimbursement Manager, Health Information Management as an entry level coder. Assigns ICD-10-CM and CPT diagnosis for basic ancillary services only. Promotes UH guest relationship’s policy.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One year of experience in general office clerical work is preferred. Completion of a coding program and / or a minimum of one year coding experience is preferred. Valid certification offered by one of the following credentialing bodies is required within 18 months from the start of employment : AAPC, AHIMA or NCCT. Knowledge of regulatory requirements is preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products as well as 3M Encoding and Grouping software is preferred.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Must maintain a valid credential offered by one of the following credentialing bodies : AAPC, AHIMA or NCCT. Will allow 18 months after the start of employment to obtain credential. (An additional 18-month extension may be granted to an employee to retake the examination if he / she is maintaining the departments productivity and quality standards.)
