Position Summary:
Seeking an innovative and independent staff member to join our Department of Resident Life Team! Residence Life is looking for a Resident Director (RD). This position is a full time professional, master’s degree preferred, with supervisor experience willing to work late night hours. The Resident Director lives in a residence hall and manages a facility or multiple facilities. They are responsible for student conduct, student supervision, maintenance requests and weekly walkthroughs, programming, roommate conflict, mediation, training, and overall providing a welcoming, safe, and well maintained facility for our residents to live in. RDs works on a creative team, providing support and education to students beyond the classroom. Provides leadership and direction for young para-professionals within the residence halls and a support system to the residents they serve. This position serves on a late night crisis response team, is trained in crisis management, and is available at a variety of hours.Duties:
- Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people.
- Ability to understand work to be done, organize that work and delegate tasks to staff members appropriately.
- Ability to coordinate programs and process, and to synthesize them into successful student and departmental services.
- Ability to analyze information and to problem-solve.
- Knowledge of, and ability to work within, a university environment with all of its constituencies.
- Ability to conceptualize large projects requiring the integration of various systems.
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgment to make decisions.
- Ability to be an effective mentor to students and to appropriately advise university students about personal and vocational choices, including advising them as to what departments might be able to more effectively assist them with their particular issues.
- Knowledge of student development theory.
- Use of common word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Bachelor's degree at time of hire required. Master’s degree in higher education or a related field preferred.
This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
