What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Safety Specialist position at University of California - Los Angeles Health?
DescriptionUnder the direction of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), you will serve as a Radiation Safety Specialist for the Westwood, Santa Monica, and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospitals. This role is responsible for implementing all aspects of the Radiation Safety Program, which includes:
* Monitoring the use of radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment at UCLA Health
* Lead equipment calibration services and permitting processes
* Assisting with radiation safety training
* Assisting in implementing the UCLA Health Dosimetry Program
* Completing containment set up and clearance protocols related to staff therapeutic administration of sealed and unsealed radioactive materials to UCLA Health patients
* Updating radiation safety policies, protocols, and EHS websites
* Lead CalOSHA employee investigations related to radiation safety
* Performance of other duties mandated under California and Federal Radiation Control Regulations for use of radioactive materials and radiation machines
This position may require travel to multiple UCLA Health sites.
Salary Range: $31.03-65.90 Hourly
QualificationsRequired:
* 2 years of experience in an Environmental Health and Safety program, or 2 years of college including appropriate science courses.
* Mathematical skills, including Algebra and units of measurements.
* Skill in preparing concise, logical and grammatically correct memos, policies, reports and other documents.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to conduct training sessions for new and continuing employees.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, managers, administration and external persons and regulatory agencies
* Ability to work under minimal supervision and achieve desired outcomes.
* Ability to make effective presentations to convey information on safety policies, procedures and issues.
* Ability to travel to UCLA Heath sites as needed.
Preferred:
* Experience implementing a Safety Program.
* Skill in reading, understanding and interpreting National and State laws and Hospital Safety codes.
* Knowledge of general and radiation safety issues and regulations relative to healthcare.
* Working knowledge of radiation safety instruments and equipment used in hospital and other healthcare settings.
