Position description

DESCRIPTION
The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA seeks motivated applicants for a postdoctoral researcher in the Institute's BioPolymers, Automated Cellular Infrastructure, Flow, and Integrated Chemistry Materials Innovation Platform (BioPACIFIC MIP). This opportunity is for a scientist interested in publishing and collaborating with academic research aligned with BioPACIFIC's goal to develop novel, high-performance polymers and bio-derived materials using sustainable, non-petroleum based starting materials. The team at BioPACIFIC MIP is developing new ways to grow high quality protein, polymer, and small molecule crystals alongside the new electron diffraction tomography methods to characterize them. Soft material structural determination will be performed using a state-of-the-art TFS Spectra 300C, a microscope specialized for a multifaceted cryogenic workflow.

This position is set within a vibrant environment that promotes collaboration with other UCLA researchers and interaction with many principal investigators. This postdoctoral appointment is for Ph.D. graduates who have an extensive background in transmission electron microscopy, diffraction tomography (alternatively called microED or 3D ED), python programming, crystallography, and crystal growth. The selected candidate will be expected to serve a two-year full-time appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a second and third year. The appointee's time will be split between research collaborations, crystal growth, and diffraction tomography method development under the advisement of a sponsoring UCLA faculty mentor.
