Assistant Professor, Adjunct series
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Adjunct series at the Assistant rank. Applicants should have deep expertise bioinformatics, data science, and/or artificial intelligence, and the beginnings of a track record of teaching, collaboration, and independent funding, commensurate with their proposed rank and years of experience. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise that aligns with the department’s strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence and strengths in causal inference.
Context: UCSF is one of the nation’s top medical research institutions. The UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is the largest department of its kind in the University of California system, including nearly 30 biostatistics/bioinformatics faculty, and has a strong mission in education, research and clinical activities. The Department teaches, conducts methodology research, and provides expertise to the rest of the university, collaborating with departments in all 4 schools, the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, the Cancer Center, the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and other entities across campus. The Department also participates in teaching medical students, fellows, junior faculty, and students in our master’s programs and PhD Program in Epidemiology and Translational Sciences.
Duties: Adjunct faculty members in our department are expected to conduct research funded by extramural sources, be committed to regular and ongoing teaching and mentoring of our students and junior faculty; and to provide university service. There are also opportunities for leadership within the department.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 . The minimum base salary range for this position is $121,900-$157,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
For positions that are 50% effort or less:
See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,700-$121,400.

- a doctorate in bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, or a closely related field;
- Expertise in methods of electronic health record data analytics and data science;
- a record of excellence and accomplishment in both methodological and applied research
- a history of extramural funding, including current or recently awarded extramural funding for research in areas of interest and the ability to provide funding of own salary through extramural and other self-generated funding.
- Preference will be given to candidates with areas of research compatible with current departmental programs and who have demonstrated early potential to transition to independent research and associated research funding.
- Faculty with research portfolios relevant to artificial intelligence and data science are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who will enrich our culture of collaboration.
